VIBu aims at increasing awareness of the challenges of virtuality and globalization in a modern business decision-making environment. The main goal is to offer the learners better abilities and knowledge on the challenges of virtual work and global business.
We offer VIBu for international educators as an effective learning tool which they can easily integrate into their teaching. Educators can easily link the learning experience to their own course topics and contents. VIBu offers different intended learning outcomes depending on the needs of the educators. On top of that, using VIBu as a part of a course requires very little organizing from participating universities and other organizations.
On a practical level integrating VIBu to any educator's learning activities requires two things:
Once the VIBu facilitators get the participant email lists, they will take responsility over all the learning interventions. The international educators are, of course, welcome to observe the process from pre-assignments to simulation sessions, from video conference result sessions to the assignment analyses.
On top of all this, the educators will get an extremely rewarding and educating experience upon which they can continue building their own educational activities and joint sense making with the participants. VIBu will certainly raise vivid and relevant discussion among the participants after the exercises.
We are able to offer your learners a truly unique learning experience. This is not an overstatement but something we witness time after time. The main premise behind the development of VIBu is the desire to combine experiential learning in an international context - in an utterly meaningful manner. Learners from all over the world, from different time zones, work together and jointly manage their business organization in an efficient manner.
At the same time VIBu aims at increasing the VIBu learners' awareness of the challenges of virtuality in a modern business decision-making environment. The main goal is to offer the learners better abilities and knowledge on tools with which to manage the virtual working environment.
VIBu is based on modern views on learning, which emphasize learning as a willful, intentional, active, conscious, constructive practice that includes intention-action-reflection activities. In VIBu we leave the identification of relevant information and correct solutions open in the learning situation. What this implies is that VIBu is most of all a tool to construct knowledge with - not from, like often is the case in conventional instruction.
We believe that understanding the world as experienced is important. The process of gaming is about first observing and then beginning to take on some responsibilities in a group you wish to become an integral part of. This is exactly what happens in VIBu sessions.
VIBu focuses on developing the skills of the learner to construct plans in response to situational demands and opportunities. Thus, VIBu provides contexts and assistance that will aid the individual in making sense of the environment as it is encountered: plans are constructed, tested, and revised as a function of the particular encounters in the environment.
What is simulated in VIBu is some of the critical features of the reality of virtual work and communication, and global supply chain management. Learning is situated in a rich context, reflective of real-world contexts, making it possible to tranfer the learned to environments beyond the learning situation.
VIBu is collective problem solving. During VIBu the learners discuss about the nature of the environment, they negotiate together, change knowledge, learn from each other, and make decisions. Thus, they develop identity as virtual managers of the company they are running.
Students are highly motivated and, most of all, take responsibility for their own learning. VIBu offers a learning experience that is motivating, immersive, meaningful and authentic - a truly unique experience!
